Week 2

We beat Boone.  Wrestled really well.  The guys transitioned their intensity during practice to the mat.  The kids have really stepped up their intensity during practice.  Ogden tournament go canceled which was probably a good idea after the blizzard Saturday night.  We might not have made it home.

Now this is the big week.  Saydel and Perry Thursday.  Then the Tiger/Knight Tournament.  Perry and Saydel are going to be big matches for us that are have to wins in my book.  We will face some pretty tough and ranked kids.  We have been practicing hard and are starting to make gains, now it is time to show.

The Tiger/Knight is a big tournament for us.  This is the first tournament we have been to this year.  Being the returning champions is pretty cool.  But also carries a lot of pressure for us.  The key is everyone placing at or above their seeds.  We should have 4 or more in the finals.  If we do that and everyone places chances are high for us to pull it off again.  The key is to win the first match.  Win that and everything else works out.  Plus we can not look ahead to our next opponent.  We can only compete with who is in front of us when they blow the whistle.  We will be ready to fight for the title and keeping it at CHS.

Week 1!

Well week one is in the books.  We ended up 2-4 in duals.  Not the way we wanted to start the year but so it goes.  Just a few observations from the first week.  The guys really picked up their effort.  We went out there and finished strong.  The fight was better.  Some surprises have risen thus far.  Our freshmen have really stepped in and helped out with some big wins.  They are on the right page right now.  They have to work a little harder in the room, but if they can wrestle with the top guys in the room they will be able to wrestle with a lot of people in the state.  We wrestle Thursday and Saturday of this week.  So we got some days off to regroup and heal up.  We took some lumps and bruises this week.
This is the week we have to see our greatest improvement as individuals as well as a team.  I like what Jackson said about Iowa State it is not about the work.  It is about the the fact of being able to compete, to fight.  It is not about losing or winning it is about how you did either of those.  Did you win by dominating and fighting through moves and position, or did you just do enough to win.  Did you lose by surrendering or did you lose fighting and scrapping for every possible position.  That is what we are looking at with our program.  Are our guys just surrendering or are we fighting for that position.  It is early, but if that is the way we approach every match, every practice, every workout, every bite of food, every thought, every piece of homework, test, girlfriend, etc.  Then it becomes habit.  A habit is hard to break, so make sure we make that a habit.  That is the word of the week Habit.
